Two Nakuru-based librarians, Purity Kavuri Mutuku and Joyce Wanjugu, have made it to the African list of top Movers and Shakers in corporate oline Learning.
The two ladies based at the Kenya National Library Service (knls) Nakuru were honoured by the Bob Little Press & PR which provides business-to-business public relations (PR) services.
The PR firm draws its clients from the learning technologies sector, especially corporate e-learning.
Mutuku is the senior librarian at the Nakuru Library. At position 91 out of 100, Kavuri is described as a keen promoter of open access initiatives.
Although she did not make it to the list of 100, Joyce Wanjugu who works at the junior section of the Nakuru Library was among the nominees who missed the nomination just by a whisker earning her a mention.
The PR firm describes her as being on the front line of e-learning in her community, especially promoting e-learning among young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
For Mutuku, this is not her first win. Earlier last year, she won an international scholarship for her work with Maths-Whizz.
As a senior librarian, she runs an inspirational maths programme for school children using computers to give students access to Maths-Whizz virtual tutoring.
“All glory goes to God,” she said.
Another 10 Kenyans were also included in the list proving that Kenya is a continental leader in digital literacy.
