The recent move by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has sparked tension between officials in the office of the President and those in the office of the Deputy President.

According to a report by the Standard Media, the Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita insisted that the alleged letter did not originate from the office of the President despite it bearing the Presidency letterhead.

“The letter is not from the Office of the President, plain and simple and any person or persons wishing to depend on the contents of a document that has been authored on a forged letterhead of a non-existent office does so at their own peril,” Nzioka said.

The Chief of Staff made the announcement after Senators who had moved to court to challenge the appropriations bill listed the controversial letter as evidence.

The State House has denied the letter since its content raises questions on the legality of the President's decision to sign the bill into law.
