Speaking during her funeral service at the All Saints Cathedral on Thursday, he revealed that Joyce had actually been suffering before she came into the limelight.

Abonyo disclosed that Joyce was first diagnosed with cancer in 1991, before she was treated and cured, but the disease later came back, claiming her life on Monday.

Ironically, he said, the late Laboso was treated and cured st the same facility where she succumbed on Monday, the Nairobi Hospital.

“Joyce was wonderful, I find it hard to address her in the past…she first had cancer in 1991 when we only had Brian and Ted. We were still young and we were devastated by the news…She was treated in Nairobi Hospital and she healed from her first cancer,” said Mr Abonyo.

He also narrated how the governor always kept herself busy, terming her a no-nonsense lady who was always busy with her operations, and 'always on phone'.

“She didn’t like drama, not so many knew about it…she was sick but covered it all. Joyce was committed to her work. She was a busy woman, always on her phone making calls,” he added.

Abonyo also thanked all the people who have been supportive to him and his family during the trying times, including President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

The governor is set to be buried at Abonyo's home in Kisumu on Saturday.
