Kenyans from different walks of life have continued to express mixed reactions after Molo MP Kuria Kimani appeared for an anti-illicit brew meeting while drunk.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has now offered to mentor the lawmaker in a bid to help him discharge his duties more effectively after he faced backlash following the incident.
The legislator turned for a meeting against the increased production and consumption of illicit brew Elburgon, Molo Constituency on Thursday.
He looked unfocused and confused.
Residents who had attended the meeting were shocked to the point that they forced him to leave.
On Sunday, Kinyanjui said that he plans to mentor the lawmaker for the sake of the people of his home area. He asked the residents not to judge him based on the incident noting that he has the potential to perform.
The county boss also said that the lawmaker needs support and not condemnation.
“It was an unfortunate incident, but it must also help us to acknowledge that leaders are also human. As a senior leader in the region, I shall mentor him to discharge his duties more effectively. Leadership is a journey, as long as we are ready to learn,” said Kinyanjui, as quoted by Daily Nation.
On his part, Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Joel Kairu pleaded with the electorate to pardon the MP.
Kairu said that the lawmaker has room to correct on the minor mistake so that he leaves behind a good legacy when he completes his term in office.
