Kenyan hip hop artiste Khaligraph Jones on Monday issued a statement through his Instagram page clarifying the complaints he had launched against the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).
The rapper had earlier on called out MCSK for paying artistes peanuts and asked them to explain their mode of payment.
He is just one among many high-flying names in the music industry who got Sh2,500 royalties from MCSK.
In his statement, Khaligraph clarified that he was speaking on behalf of young upcoming musicians in the music industry.
"Clarification post, It should be understood that when I made a complain about MCSK underpaying Artists, I wasn’t only speaking for myself but On behalf of Everyone else especially the young artists who are grinding Everyday and releasing Hits but getting nothing In return when these guys are busy harassing People with Businesses and collecting money from them, We are waiting for a proper statement from them(MCSK) with a proper explanation as to why this is happening and where all the Money is going to, not with a Tweet or a Facebook post, Put a press conference or something , then after that Pay us what you owe, Kama si Ivo Tunakuja Uko kwa Ofisi zenu, The OG shall Be respected (sic)," Khaligraph wrote on Instagram.
MCSK, on the other hand, defended itself citing that the money paid out was collected for two months performances and divided among all of its registered members.
