Probe into the alleged plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto has taken a different twist after State House secretary digital in the communications department Dennis Itumbi said he has a video of the controversial La Mada hotel meeting.
Itumbi, who operates from DP Ruto’s office now claims he has video evidence of what transpired during the meeting.
He also said that he is ready to shed more light on the alleged plot to eliminate Ruto.
Itumbi made the remarks when he appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Zainabu Abdul. The court, however, refused to give him the chance to present the video.
Lawyer Katwa Kigen who is representing Itumbi in the case requested the court to give their client space to make a personal submission before he was slapped with two-week detention.
Detectives have now narrowed their investigations to 256 members of a WhatsApp group where it is believed Itumbi shared, for the first time, a letter that alleged there was a plot to eliminate Ruto.
The letter that was widely shared on Social Media has since been declared fake.
One of the members of the group, who has only been identified as Samuel, has already been arrested over the matter.
“That subsequent to the arrest, of the, said Samuel, and a brief perusal of one of the recovered mobile phones, a WhatsApp group by the name Tangatanga Movement was found,” the detective said, as quoted by Capital FM.
The other members of the group are on the detectives' radar as the probe continues.
Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article erroneously referred to Mr Dennis Itumbi as a former State House official. Corrections have been made to reflect his current position of State House secretary digital in the communications department.
