South Korean military officials have protested the violation of the nation's airspace by Russian and Chinese fighter planes on Tuesday, which they have termed provocative.
They say that South Korean fighter jets were forced to send warning shots to a Chinese military plane that invaded the airspace, first alone, before coming in with a Russian plane.
It had emerged that the Russian bomber trespassed into South Korea in Dokdo area and left after being sent flairs by South Korean planes but later returned again.
This came hours after two other Russian planes and two Chinese fighter planes had done the same over the Korean Air Defence Zone.
Reports from the country's defence ministry indicate that the Russian bomber did not respond to messages sent by Korean F15k and F16k jets that were scrambled to intercept it.
"The South Korean military took tactical action including dropping flares and firing a warning shot," the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday morning.
The reports say that the two Chinese warplanes stayed for about 30 minutes in the Korean airs before joining the Russian ones and later flew together over the East Sea.
Its yet to be established if the same was done deliberately, with the South Korean government set to summon Russian and Chinese envoys to the country to explain the happenings.
