The mysterious disease which is characterized by high-pitched cough, sneezing and low-grade fever had affected 52 students at the time of the closure of the school.

According to the Kenyan netizens, it was not prudent for the students to be sent home as the disease had not yet been identified. The netizens termed the decision to close the school and send the students as a great risk.

Although it only forms 1,2 and form 3 students who have been sent home, the netizens suggested that the student should have been quarantined in order to investigate and establish the cause of the disease.

A good number of Kenyans on Twitter were concerned that sending the students home may lead to the spread of the disease and consequently worsen the situation.

They called upon the government particularly the ministries of health and education to address the matter with urgency and the seriousness it deserves before the situation got out of control.

The outbreak of the disease comes barely after an accident at Precious Talent School left eight students dead.
