Supremacy battles between Kalonzo Musyoka and Governor Kivutha Kibwana could escalate in coming months after the latter was sacked as Wipe chair.
For months now, Kibwana has rocked Wiper party from within, accusing his party leader Mr Kalonzo Musyoka of failed track record.
So bold Kibwana has been, that he even dared Musyoka to kick him out of the party. The Makueni county boss had also accused Musyoka of impoverishing the Kamba community.
On Wednesday this week, Wiper Chief Whip Robert Mbui has said, the party shall replace Kibwana, who joined forces with Musyoka in 2016 from Muungano party.
“The new party chair will be unveiled before the end of next week. The person picked will only serve in an acting capacity until the party conducts national elections” Mr Mbui said.
Another source within the party said Mr Ali Mwakwere has held numerous meetings with Mr Musyoka at the party’s Karen offices and according to them, he has taken up the job already.
“We’ve been instructed to hand over to Amb Mwakwere all the files which belonged to Prof Kibwana at the party offices but there’s no formal announcement about his appointment,” said the source.
With Mr Mwakwere having taken over as party Chairman, Kibwana will now have to move back to his Muungano party or join any other party for 2022 realignments.
He had initially accused Kalonzo of shortchanging Muungano party in the MOU they had signed. Musyoka has been keen to minimise wrangles in Wiper party by kicking out Kibwana.
