Majority of governors who are serving for their second terms have not hinted on their next destinations after the end of their role as governors.
The Kenyan constitution dictates that a governor will serve for not more than two terms. For this reason, a governor is left with an option for contesting for either the presidential, senatorial, Member of parliament or Member of county Assembly (MCA).
These three governors are equal to the task if they will decide to run for the presidential race and this is how they will influence 2022 presidential politics.
1. Hassan Joho
He is the governor for Mombasa and deputy party leader for Orange Democratic Party (ODM).
Joho is definitely the coastal Kingpin and enjoys the support of the majority of residents from this region.
If Raila Odinga will miss in the 2022 presidential race, then Joho who is his deputy is likely to contest on an ODM party ticket.
2. Dr Alfred Mutua
He is the governor for Machakos county and the party leader for Maendeleo Chap Chap party.
Mutua is ranked among the top performing governors in the republic and has on many occasions expressed interest in the presidential seat.
Mutua commands reasonable support from Kenyans and will, therefore, be a force to reckon with if he will decide to contest for the presidential seat.
3. Anne Waiguru
Waiguru has been described as an iron lady.
She is currently the governor for Kirinyaga county.
She shook off the NYS scandal to winning the much heated Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.
She is currently among the most ranked Central region politicians and has been mentioned as one of the options for DP Ruto’s 2022 running mate.
If Waiguru will be Ruto’s running mate then she will have the opportunity to influence the 2022 presidential politics.
