FORD Kenya party leader Moses Wetang'ula on Saturday met retired President Daniel Arap Moi at his Kabarak home near Nakuru town.
Wetang'ula was accompanied by Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, Senate Minority Leader James Orengo and Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dulo.
Others were Kakamega Governor and chair of Council of Governors (CoG) Wycliffe Oparanya and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.
The leaders visited Kenya's second Head of State to console him ahead of the burial of his eldest son Jonathan Moi.
Speaking later during the funeral service at Kabarak University grounds, Wetang'ula revealed that Moi pleaded with political leaders to unite Kenyans across the country.
He observed there were hopes unity could be achieved judging by how Kenyans across all walks of life and political divide came together to give Jonathan a befitting send-off.
“Today when we visited Mzee Moi, he told us to unite all Kenyans as political leaders and this gathering is a testimony that despite many political differences we can still find our unity and that we should bequeath to our children,” said the Bungoma Senator.
Wetang'ula said he would forever be grateful to the retired president since he was the one who introduced him to politics through a nominating to the National Assembly in 1993.
The Senator described the late Jonathan as a great friend and a humble person who had many admirers.
"We once shared offices at Nairobi’s Corner House and we would occasionally go to River Road for lunch. It was unusual for a president's son to be in those downtown streets," Wetang'ula recalled.
