The county chief has since opposed the former Rongo lawmaker’s direct nomination last Friday, landing him in trouble with his fellow members in the opposition leader Raila Odinga-led side who have condemned him.

However, this might be just a tip of the iceberg, with the Governor most likely out to oppose the nomination in a bid to pick a fight with the former Premier as otherwise, why would he oppose the nomination?

It could be a scheme to unseat Raila as the Luo Nyanza kingpin, with the plan being to oppose, brand him unable to preside over free and fair nominations and later use the excuse to shift the entire or a faction of the region towards another direction.

Raila must handle Obado with care, as this will be disadvantageous to his candidature in 2022 should he take another shot at the Presidency and will see him face the race as a weak contestant who is unable to coordinate his own backyard.

With the region divided, Deputy President William Ruto who is currently willing to go through any opening to realize his 2022 bid might be able to woo Obado, take the votes, and render Raila a laughing stock after his 5th defeat.

The Governor has nothing to lose whether or not that is the plan and whether or not he succeeds, as he is on his second and last constitutional term, with Raila set for a big loss in this context.
