Thirdway Alliance party leader Dr Ekuru Aukot has been dealt another major blow after Nairobi County Assembly threw out Punguza Mizigo Bill on Tuesday.
The MCA rejected the proposals by the former presidential candidate, terming it ill-driven and ill-timed.
The decision by the lawmakers came barely hours after Nakuru County Assembly also rejected the bill on grounds that it was meant to reduce their numbers in the House.
The Nairobi MCAs unanimously voted against the bill after a short debate.
Minority chief whip Moses Ogeto argued that the bill was planning to interfere with the two-thirds gender rule, which will, in turn, affected the capability of women rising into different positions of power.
He argued that the bill is unrealistic, adding that it needs further reconsideration before it can be presented to the county assembly for approval.
"The merits of the Punguza Mizigo Bill are not realistic and we are telling Aukot to look for another bill that is more inclusive,” stated Ogeto.
The lawmaker was seconded by MCA Lawrence Munga who said that the proposal to reduce the number of the constituencies doesn’t add up as the government fights for better representation.
Aukot has been blaming mainstream parties including Jubilee and ODM for his woes.
