In a tweet on Friday, Miguna said that the betting companies ban will not change anything about the state of affairs in Kenya as long as President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto remain in power.

He noted that the two leaders must leave power before we can realise any change in the government.

The lawyer cum politician, who has been very vocal on matters of national interest, also said that betting has destroyed the lives of millions of Kenyans but the government took too long to take action against the firms.

“Don't get distracted by diversionary despotic strategies and tactics like banning #SportPesa and #betting, which they had LICENSED and used as conduits for hooking desperate and impoverished Kenyans on gambling. Remain focused on MOBILIZING for the REVOLUTION! #DespotsMustFall,” he said.

The move by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) has elicited mixed reactions from different quarters. The management of Sportpesa has expressed shock following the new development.

“SportPesa is extremely disappointed by the recent malicious actions by Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) to block our payments systems despite the existence of a court order,” SportPesa said as quoted by the Standard.

The firm maintained that it has fully complied with the regulations of betting.
