Coming amidst the crackdown on Matatu operators, they insist that Mr Matiang'i's integrity is unquestionable and would  help restore order in the country.

"We are all in support of the minister. He has proved to the world that nothing is impossible as long as you have passion. He's fit to be president and that will come to pass," said Brian Mamboleo, Secretary General of Jubilee in Nyamira.

Throughout social media forums in Nyamira, users asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to consider backing Matiang'i for the top seat.

Caleb Motari, another local Jubilee politician, said the former ICT and Education boss has epitomised competency that should be emulated across government departments.

"He will break the jinx of ethnicity and his presidency will unify the country. I wish that he will declare and Kenyans will propel him there," he added.

Last month, a furious president Uhuru Kenyatta told Nyeri residents and politicians that his pick for 2022 will shock the nation, further raising speculations.

At Nyamira, it's understood that the powerful minister is secretly lobbying to succeed Governor John Nyagarama in 2022.
