Former Rongo Member of Parliament (MP) George Ochillo Ayacko, a fierce rival of Migori Governor Okoth Obado, has surprised many with his silence regarding Obado's woes.
Many people expected Ayacko to be among the very first people to make a public pronouncement after the county boss was linked to the murder of 26-year-old Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
But Ayacko has remained mum on the matter that has captured national attention.
This is probably because the former cabinet minister is busy campaigning for his election as the next area Senator in a an election set for next month.
He is vying on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, and is considered the front runner in the race.
Prior to his predicaments, Obado had indicated that he does not support Ayacko’s bid.
Despite his current woes, the county chief is a very popular figure in Migori politics. He has loads of supporters who can make Ayacko the next senator or deny him that chance altogether.
By remaining silent, Ayacko may end up winning the support of Obado’s supporters ahead of the crucial election.
He will face Peter Jobando Osieko of Green Congress Kenya Party, independent candidate Dickson Ogola, Eddy Okech of the Federal Party of Kenya, another independent candidate Samwel Otieno, and Solomon Rugaria of the People Democratic Party.
