Instead, the residents led by clergy from the area converged and conducted a seven-hour cleansing of Mlolongo-Katani-Kamulu- Joska road.

The residents decrying increased accidents on the road made prayer stopovers in various section of the road dedicating it to God.

Rev Paul Wambua of Redeemed Gospel church Katani who led the exercise said that they had to seek God's intervention in a bid to reduce the high rate of accidents.

"A lot of lives have been lost on this road due to accidents since its construction two years ago the reason, why we have dedicated the road to God so that there won't be bloodshed anymore," said Wambua.

The cleansing happened just two days after a 22-year-old woman died on the spot after the motorbike she was on was hit by a lorry.

However, the residents lauded the national government for tarmacking the road but lamented that there is no signage nor bumps.

Wambua said as area residents, they had suffered for many years due to impassable roads before it was tarmacked by the state. However, he expressed the need for erection of bumps and signage.

“We are thanking God for this road, we have waited for it for a long period of time. We have been suffering a lot due to poor roads especially during the rainy season, transport has been difficult,” he noted.

They said the contractor should urgently erect bumps and road signage to reduce the accidents.
