Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has warned county education officials against any attempts to steal funds meant for buying books for public schools.
Speaking in Nairobi on Friday, the CS noted that the state has since released funds for the new books following the shift to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
He observed that some counties have not availed the books for the Early Childhood and Development Education (EDCE), warning against any attempts to misuse the money.
“If I catch you stealing what is meant for purchase of books, we shall be enemies,” he said during a consultative meeting of the national and county government on education.
He urged the counties to work with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) in acquiring the books, and not hide behind their high cost to justify their delayed supply.
He directed the counties to rely on the institute to get the books at the cheapest prices.
“Books are not expensive. Let the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development guide you on where to get books at affordable cost,” he added.
He as well defended his cross-county tours, noting that he is solely doing it to supervise the progress of the exercise and not out of disrespect.
