Former Kakamega Senator Bonnie Khalwale has for the first time revealed intrigues surrounding the pick of NASA presidential flag bearer in 2017 that saw Mr Raila Odinga picked at the expense of his other four colleagues.
Prior to elections, NASA was yet to agree on who to pick from among Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto.
But Dr Khalwale now says economist David Ndii and former Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama played a central role in having Mr Odinga installed as the candidate to face President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"But you can ask @FarahMaalimM @KBonimtetezi or any other National Coordinating Committee members who persuaded them that @RailaOdinga was our best candidate," Dr Ndii said in defense to his decision to stick to Odinga.
After Ndii tried to convince the team using scientific research approach that Odinga was suitable, Muthama flew the entire team room Zanzibar for a retreat where the decision was reached.
"It is true that @DavidNdii, vehemently persuaded us (including using scientific methods) to settle on @RailaOdinga candidacy & when it wasn't yielding, @nduyamuthama flew us to Zanzibar on a retreat where one of the co-principals cracked the puzzle," he wrote on Twitter.
While Khalwale has since left, Ndii has also expressed reservations in Raila's decision to work with Uhuru, who he accuses of commiting economic atrocities to the people of Kenya throughout his time in office.
Mr Odinga has often defended his decision, arguing that the country was almost at her knees following post election violence. He has vowed to help Uhuru leave behind a good legacy.
