The outspoken legislator has recently hit out at Raila over what he termed as ill agenda and selfish interests following the famous March 9, 2018 handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The feud between Raila and Ruto has taken centre stage particularly on the issue of the referendum, the fight against graft and the effects of the handshake.

Ichung'wah is a close ally of Ruto and has openly defended the DP from attacks that pour in from Raila's camp. The vocal MP has been playing the critical role of immediately responding to queries raised by the opposition on the above issues.

The DP might have assigned him the task of standing in the gap and taking on his critics. The MP has frequently responded to attacks from Raila’s camp and has spoken on a number of issues that clearly prove how determined he is in helping the DP battle it out with his opponents.

The lawmaker has openly differed with Raila pertaining to the direction that the fight against graft is taking. He insists that the war against graft has taken sides and that it could be aimed at distracting the DP’s ambition to occupy the house on the hill in 2022.

The manner in which Ichung'wah defends Ruto against criticism is an indication that he is the DP’s point man in Kiambu County. He has also cautioned the former premier against capitalising on the post-handshake effects to interfere with the government’s development programmes.

The fearless lawmaker has been among Mount Kenya leaders who have been assuring the DP of the region's full support in 2022.
