Most of the road accidents in Kenya occur due to brake failure or brake calliper breakdown.
It is usually not easy to tell if your car's brakes are in bad condition. One of the most important things you should often check in your car is the brakes.
These are signs your car needs new brakes:
1. Squealing
If you start hearing a high pitched screeching noise after you have applied brakes, this is an indication that the brakes pads have worn out. You should replace the pads as soon as possible before the rotor impairs as well.
2. Brake pedal vibration
This is another sign that you should never ignore. The vibration of the brake pedals is usually caused by an old rotor.
When you note this sign, don't hesitate. Take your car to the garage for the replacement of the rotor.
3. Slow stopping response
This is an evident sign that your car needs new brakes.
This sign is due to leaking of brakes fluid. From the mechanical point of view, brake fluid forces the brake pads to clump hard to the rotor.
If the brake pedals are too soft, this means that the hydraulic pressure is too low, and therefore you need to see a mechanic.
All drivers are advised to be vigilant and ensure that their cars are in good condition before setting off.
