Worshippers from a church in Trans Nzoia County are in shock after they found a 44-year-old man dead inside the church early Wednesday morning.
Kwanza OCPD Alphonse Kimanzi who confirmed the incident said the body the man identified as William Kariuki was discovered at around 5 AM by worshippers of the Full Gospel Church in Kibomet, Trans Nzoia.
Speaking to Nation, Kimanzi said they have launched investigations into the incident adding that officers are still trying to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the man.
Kimanzi said the man had attended the church service on Tuesday evening for New Year’s celebrations but fell asleep during the service.
Kimanzi said other church members left him behind thinking he was asleep after the service ended but were shocked to discover that he was dead.
The police were informed of the incident after the worshippers found Kariuki’s body lying on the church’s floor.
“We received a report at around 5.30 am that a man had been found dead inside the church,” said Kimanzi.
The body was taken to Mt Elgon Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
