It is alleged that the man, Abel Maosa, a father of four was drunk when he stabbed his wife Agnes Moraa.

Area assistant chief Daniel Onsarigo said the woman was stabbed on her left thigh by the drunk husband.

"Maosa returned home at 11 pm drunk and demanded food. His wife said there was no food left for him since they were not aware if he could return home. Angered Maosa picked a kitchen knife and stabbed his wife on the left thigh injuring her severely," the chief said.

The victim screamed for help from neighbours who arrived at the homestead and rushed her to a local hospital for treatment.

"The victim was transferred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where she is being treated. The husband was arrested and he is currently being held at Kisii police station," he stated.

Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet said the suspect will be charged in court over the assault.

"Men should stop beating their wives because of food. Such men will not be spared by the law," Kibet stated.
