He may be one of the most famous and popular politicians in the country today. However, before his election in 2017, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo had struggled in politics during his early days.
It was, however, his rare secret meeting with then US Senator Barrack Obama in 2006, that changed his political future.
According to Dr Amollo, he was among the lucky Kenyans selected to meet the then Illinois Senator during his six-day visit.
"After the formal meeting, Obama called me aside and interestingly told me that, given my perspectives and insights, I would make a good politician," Amollo said at the time.
"Obama asked me what the hurdles were and I told him that politics in Kenya is hampered by a number of factors and one of them is age," he said.
It was then that Obama told him that much as the issues he had raised were legitimate, they should not hinder his political dreams.
"He told me that when he ran for Illinois Senate seat, he was not rated anywhere and was outrightly dismissed as non-starter," he added.
Obama would later win the 2008 US Presidential election, in one of the most historic moments in the country's political history.
As for Amollo, he would later make his mark in Kenyan politics as he won the Rarieda seat 2017.
