Eight brewers in Bobaracho village of Kisii county have been arrested as the fight against illicit brew in the area intensifies.

Leading the police in destroying and arresting the alleged brewers on Wednesday Kisii Deputy County Commissioner, Mr Peter Mbugi said that they have been carrying out the exercise since Monday and they have managed to arrest eight key suspects and over 3,500 litres of local brew (Busaa and Changaa) destroyed in the process.

“I was informed by my officers on the ground that there is emerging alcohol abuse in the county and I had to ensure that we take action and I believe the crackdown will bear fruits,” he added.

The officer called upon the residents to cooperate with the police to ensure that those fueling the business in the area are arrested and arraigned in court.

“We have already arrested a number of them and they will be arraigned in court, we won’t stop the crackdown until it ends,” he added.

He said the arrested ones are currently being held at Kisii Central police station and they will be arraigned in court.
