Eight people have died in a road accident while six others sustained serious injuries at Seka, Rachuonyo North, Homa Bay County on Thursday afternoon.
Six died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the Homa Bay county referral hospital.
The accident occurred when a Nissan matatu collided head-on with a probox along Kendu Bay – Katito road.
Homa Bay county police commander John Omusanga told the Star that the Nissan was travelling from Kisumu towards Kendu Bay.
"Those who perished on the spot included the drivers of both the two vehicles. We can't disclose their names now because their relatives have not been informed about the accident," Omusanga said.
The bodies have been taken to Gendia mission hospital mortuary within Kendu Bay town.
"Most of the injured persons suffered multiple fractures on their legs and arms," Omusanga said.
The police boss urged road users to be cautious on the road especially this time when schools are reopening.
