More than 9 high rise buildings in Kisii town are set to be demolished over safety concerns, National Buildings Inspectorate official Moses Nyakiongora has said.
Nyakiongora said the houses pose a grave danger to occupants.
He warned developers against flouting safety concerns when putting up storey buildings.
"It is a matter of grave concern that unscrupulous and greedy developers have been flouting rules of safety to set up houses which are becoming death traps," he said.
He added that the government will arrest and prosecute the developers building on riparian lands.
This follows after a four storey building collapsed at Mwembe in Kisii county on Wednesday and killed 7 people injuring others.
