Two of the victims sustained serious injuries on their chests, limbs and arms.

Confirming the incident, Mua ward MCA Oliver Muthaka said he had alerted the county chief engineer and the minister for transport about the accident.

The residents said that they had reported the poor condition of the foot path to area chief but no action was taken to repair the way.

The casket, which was been ferried for burial across the river, broke into pieces and the body was exposed.

The pallbearers fixed the casket by joining the pieces and proceeded to the graveside for burial.

The injured were rushed to Machakos Level 5 hospital for treatment.
