The selection exercise was completed on Wednesday at the Moi Girls High School in Eldoret.

Speaking to the press after the exercise, Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Dr Nicodemus Anyang' said 780 students who sat for KCPE in various private and public schools in the county had been selected to join national schools.

Anyang said the selected students will be getting their admission letters soon.

"This year the ministry has been very particular that students should report to schools they have been selected to join," he said.

"Any parent who wishes to change the school his/her child has been selected will have to follow the due process. The Ministry is really discouraging changes, we want to encourage all students to go to the school they have been admitted," added the County Director of Education.

He, however, expressed concerns over a trend where parents and students still believe that only the 18 original national schools are better.

Anyang pointed out that currently there are over 100 national schools that can match the class of the 18 schools.

"The government has invested a lot in the newly established national schools which now have facilities similar to the older schools that many still hold in high regard," he said.
