Initially, there were doubts if the two will attend the function, given that they have been associated with a parallel meeting which was to take place at Nabongo Grounds in Mumias on the same day (Saturday).

But the trade unionist has warned that the two will have demonstrated their disinterest in Luhya issues should they skip the function and could as a result be replaced as there is no shortage of leaders in Western Kenya.

Speaking on Saturday, Atwoli urged them to emulate Western Kenya governors who have all agreed to attend the function.

"We must get our mathematics right the way Western governors are doing. Mudavadi and Wetang’ula haven’t stolen any money and they have a clean record to ascend to power but when I hear them and their lieutenants throwing insults at us, I pity them. Let them be part of this initiative," he said at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Friday.

Atwoli also insisted that through proposals set to come from the BBI, the country should brace for major constitutional changes, including an expansion of the executive.

He foresaw the introduction of a Prime Ministerial post and two deputies, warning that leaders not involved in the BBI push will be left out during government formation.

“If you are not in the leadership corridor, you won’t be part of the next government even when you have a lot of money," Atwoli added.

While Wetangula has since thrown his weight behind the entire BBI push, Mudavadi has been of the idea that the push as a political initiative might not solve Kenyans' problems.
