Some regional leaders have been observing the CS as the best bet for the region in the 2022 general polls.

However, Cheruiyot has poured cold water on the endorsements, cautioning the CS against being misled.

He noted that Matiang'i is not ripe for the seat just yet.

The vocal legislator says that the only option would be an alliance between the Kisii and Kalenjin communities under Deputy President William Ruto, who he termed as the sure bet.

According to Cheruiyot, the DP and his supporters will, in turn, return a hand and support the CS for the top seat upon him completing his term.

“By virtue of being good neighbours, let’s have a political alliance between the Kisii and Kalenjin communities,” he was quoted by the People Daily on Wednesday.

The youthful Senator made the remarks during a fundraiser at the Ignena Itambe Catholic Church in West Mugirango.

His remarks were echoed by MPs Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Vincent Kemosi (South Mugirango) and Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba).

The senator also bashed a group of politicians from the region who have been heaping all the praise on Uhuru with regards to the appointment of civil servants in government.

He lashed out at Senators Sam Ongeri (Kisii) and Okong Omogeni (Nyamira) for spreading the misleading information, noting that Ruto is also to thank for some of the slots.

"Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto jointly appointed the officers serving the Jubilee government and therefore, it is wrong for some leaders to claim the slots given to the community were done by Uhuru alone," noted Cheruiyot.
