A team of detectives are set to oversee the postmortem on the bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda scheduled this Monday at the Coast General Hospital, Mombasa County.
A government pathologist is set to conduct a postmortem on the two bodies, which will mark the start of investigations under which the tragedy happened.
On September 29th, Mariam's car slid from MV Harambee that was moving towards Mombasa Island from Likoni mainland and plunged into the Indian Ocean.
It took divers from different government agencies 13 days to retrieve the car from the ocean.
Detectives will be investigating situations under which the car slid from the ferry.
Mariam's husband, John Wambua on Sunday said burial arrangements are yet to start as they wait on the government concludes their investigations.
“We are yet to begin preparations because the bodies are still held by the government. Once released to us, we will inform you about the burial plans. But for now, we are waiting to hear from the government,” said Wambua as quoted by People Daily.
The two bodies were retrieved from the ocean on Friday and taken to Jocham Hospital mortuary.
After the postmortem, the bodies are expected to be handed over to the family for burial set to take place at Salama in Makueni county.
