Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has called on the National Government to expedite the disbursement of the resources needed to curb the ballooning street children menace.
Chemno said it has taken long for a solution to be reached.
“The issue of street children is a source of income for some few individuals that's why they don't want to deal with it once and for all,” said the Deputy Governor.
He was speaking while he received officials from the Association of Charitable Children Institutions of Kenya (ACCIK), a civil society organization who paid him a courtesy call at his office, Thursday.
“We are also formulating policies that will compel the mother to name the father of the child so that whenever an issue of street children arises, the child's father is known. It is believed that rogue fathers are the major contributors of street children,” he added.
Chemno further questioned how some children homes admit children without getting first-hand background information, saying some pastors take advantage of the street children and make them their cash cows.
He insisted that a policy should be established to come up with DNA regional centres to handle cases where fathers deny their children leading to them going to the street for survival.
