This follow's an earlier indication by the two leaders that they would meet and bury their political difference for the sake of the community's unity.

The duo reportedly said they would meet and reconcile for the sake of the Kamba community.

They made the promise at a Nairobi church where they met during a wedding ceremony of Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana's son in August 2018.

However, two months down the line, the meeting is yet to take place with their supporters now questioning why the two are silent about the handshake.

Political analysts had hailed the planned meeting, saying it was good for the Ukambani region.

According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Kalonzo and Mutua might not reconcile ahead of the 2022 presidential election.

Ngure argues that the promise was circumstantial.

“I don’t think Kalonzo and Mutua are going to reconcile any time soon especially since they have both declared interests in the 2022 presidential election,” Ngure said.

He said the two politicians are fighting for political supremacy and they are both keen on using their political differences to gain numbers.

Ngure said the awaited Supreme Court ruling on August 8, 2017, Machakos gubernatorial election could be another reason why the two politicians are reluctant to close their political ranks.

Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, a close ally of Kalonzo challenged Mutua’s election in court.

The Court of Appeal then nullified Mutua’s victory on grounds that it was not free and fair.

Governor Mutua later filed an appeal at the Supreme Court that is now pending ruling.

Kalonzo and Mutua fell out after the 2013 general election and have been engaging in ugly public spats.
