Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has come out to express solidarity with embattled State House Digital Secretary Dennis Itumbi.
The blogger-turned-civil servant was arrested on Wednesday after detectives linked him to an alleged fake letter claiming there was a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
Nyoro, a close ally of Ruto, accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of an attempt to divert attention from Ruto's alleged murder plot by apprehending Itumbi, who works as part of his (Ruto) communication team.
In a post on his official social platforms, the first-time legislator said Itumbi's arrest was proof that the DCI, which is supposed to work independently, was being used to serve political interests.
"I stand with my brother Dennis Itumbi. These diversionary gimmicks only work to show Kenyans what these so-called independent agencies are - political outfits led by Juntas," Nyoro tweeted.
Itumbi spent the night at Muthaiga Police Station and was on Thursday taken to court where he was charged with publishing alarming information.
The court was told he posted the fake letter in a WhatsApp group identified as 'Tangatanga team' which is allied to Ruto.
The prosecution applied to have the blogger detained for 14 days to allow more investigations, arguing the matter under investigations touches on national security.
