A British police officer found guilty of being in possession of a video that showed a minor being sexually abused has been sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work.
Robyn Williams, who is a Metropolitan police superintendent according to The Guardian, was convicted last week and sentenced on Tuesday.
Given the guilty verdict, she is legally required to register as a sex offender.
The video, according to media reports, was sent to her in 2018 by her sister who expressed outrage at the fact that it was circulating on social media.
She claims that she was not aware at the time that the video had been sent to her, a claim that the judge disparaged as fanciful.
The prosecutor Richard Wright QC held the view that the officer did not have any ulterior motive in possessing the disturbing video.
“This is instead a case in which we allege that each of them made serious errors of judgment about how to handle this video and, in dealing with it as they did, each of them has committed serious criminal offences,” the prosecutor said according to the Independent.
Williams is now looking at the prospect of her career ending in disgrace.
Jennifer Hodge, who sent the video, was sentenced to 100 hours for distributing content of an indecent nature according to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
