Residents of Kwa Solo, Kaveani, Kiyoi, and Kaluluini in Kathiani sub-county, Machakos County have appealed to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company to restore electricity in the areas.Hajji Nzue a head man in Kaluluini village, told Hivisasa that the area has experienced a power outage for a period of almost two weeks now.Nzue said residents have been finding it difficult to cope at night, due to the darkness accompanied by heavy rains.He claimed over a thousand homes are in the dark, adding that something needs to be done urgently."The lights went off almost two weeks ago, you know this rain and darkness can be tormenting at night. We have asked KPLC to fix the matter in vain," said Nzue on phone.He said residents are fearing that thieves might take advantage of the darkness to rob them."We are fearing insecurities may be experienced. You know crime thrives in the darkness," he said.

Nzue divulged that workers from KPLC came to the area a few weeks ago, and left without fixing anything.

"They said someone cut the wires which fell on the ground causing the outages. We are wondering who would climb that high just to cut the wires," Nzue posed.He further noted that businesses that depend on electricity have been greatly affected by the outage.
