At the time Uhuru Kenyatta made his failed presidential bid in 2002, Rigathi Gachagua was his Personal Assistant.
Nearly 20 years later, Uhuru Kenyatta is the President and Rigathi Gachagua is Mathira MP, in Nyeri County.
With the 2022 politics gaining momentum, the President and his former 'Mtu wa Mkono' are seemingly drifting to different political directions with the head of state now in dalliance with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
On his part, the Mathira lawmaker is one of Deputy President William Ruto's loyalists in the region that has of late been at the centre of 2022 politics.
As a key member of the pro-Ruto 'Tanga Tanga' political grouping, the former District Officer in the defunct Provincial Administration seems ready to bankroll Dr Ruto's political ambitions in the populous Mount Kenya region.
Together with other pro-Ruto crew in the region including Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Kandara lawmaker Alice Wahome and Kikuyu Kimani Ichung'wa, they have urged the President to support the DP in his State House dreams in line with their political agreement ahead of the 2013 election.
The young Gachagua is from a political family with his elder brother, the late Nderitu Gachagua serving as Nyeri County first Governor until his death in 2017. Before that, he had also served as Mathira MP.
