Homabay County Women representative Gladys Wanga has proposed the scrapping off of the position of deputy governors noting that Kenyans should rethink of the 'burden'
Speaking on Tuesday morning during the daybreak show at Citizen TV, the Women legislator noted that if Nairobi county can run for over a year without a deputy Governor, yet it is the biggest county, other counties can do without also.
"Kenyans must think of devolution as it is if a county can run without a deputy Governor the way Nairobi has run especially it being the biggest county," she said.
The Homabay legislator's comments are likely to spark debate as the country is preparing to hold a referendum before the next general elections.
Her remarks come at a time the Senate summoned Nairobi City county Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko to explain why he has not picked the Deputy Governor.
Nairobi county boss Sonko has been running without his deputy since the Departure of his Deputy Polycarp Igathe in January last year.
Sonko's attempts to propose a Deputy Governor to the Nairobi county Assembly went futile and rejected especially after he proposed the firebrand NRM lawyer Miguna Miguna in what he termed as 'in the spirit of the handshake'.
