A section of leaders from Mt Kenya region has come out to accuse President Uhuru Kenyatta and his government of neglecting the area after the handshake between him and opposition chief Raila Odinga.
The leaders who were speaking to a local daily on Monday further added that the president has avoided visiting the region yet they massively supported and voted for him.
Keiyo South Member of Parliament Daniel Rono said that the region might be forced to declare its political stand should the government fail to address their concerns.
“It is like all arms of government are fighting the Rift Valley. At this rate, we might take drastic steps and declare our stand,” Daniel Rono said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
Bomet East member of parliament Ronald Tonui has faulted the government for not initiating a water project in Konoin even after securing a loan for the same.
“The Sh22 billion secured from the Chinese government for the Boston water project in Konoin Constituency has not taken off as a result of a failure by the government to pay its 10 per cent commitment fee,” Mr Tonui said.
On his part, Bomet Senator Christopher Langat has slammed Jubilee’s party administration for implementing mega projects in Raila’s home turf yet the Nyanza region has never voted for Jubilee’s administration.
“Sadly, there are mega infrastructure projects being implemented in Kisumu and the larger Nyanza region whose residents did not vote for Jubilee in the last two elections,” Mr Langat posed.
These sentiments come at a time when division allegations have been reported in the ruling party ahead of the 2022 general elections.
