A section of Gusii leaders has responded to Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong'era's threats to expose drug barons in the region.
Ong'era on Friday called on Interior CS Fred Matiang'i to crack the whip on the criminals or else she will expose them in Parliament.
Her remarks have since elicited mixed reactions among Gusii leaders.
"Why should she wait for them to be arrested? Youths have been rendered useless in our villages due to the consumption of illegal drugs," a youth leader, Isaac Motari, told this writer in Kisii town on Friday.
Motari admitted that drugs' trade is at its peak in Gusii region.
"Urgent measures should be put in place to deal with drug cartels before youths' lives are ruined. Ms. Ong'era should consider naming the drug barons now and not later," Motari added.
Thomas Nyangaresi challenged the politician to report the drug barons to police.
"Ong'era should take the names to police for arrests to be made immediately to save the lives of youths," he said.
Victor Swanya, a Wiper politician said naming the drug cartels in Parliament won't help in eliminating the vice in the region.
"Ong'era should not wait for the drug barons to go into hiding and name them. Let her report the drug cartels to police as quick as possible," Swanya said.
