Deputy President William Ruto has been questioned over his defensive actions lately, regarding the proposed law changes through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) push.
The DP has been seen to be leading those questioning the proposed referendum, despite the initiative having support of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Thirdway Alliance Secretary-General Fredrick Okango on Saturday said the DP is appearing to be taking the opposition side on the issue, and is taking the form of the opposition leader.
However, he doubted if Ruto's concerns about the push are sincere, observing that he is most likely just reacting to his exclusion.
"Listening to Ruto, he speaks like the opposition leader. He is questioning why the push is being used as a campaign method but the problem is that he is opposed to it because he thinks he has been excluded. (Unapomsikiliza Ruto anaongea kama kiongozi wa upinzani. Anauliza mbona inatumiwa kama kampeni lakini shida ni eti anapinga maana anaona hajajumuishwa)," he said.
He spoke on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Saturday, in response to the DP's remarks in Western Kenya on Friday.
At the same time, he agreed with the DP that the push, and the planned second phase of the BBI task-force sittings is coming out to be a waste of public resources.
"I agree with him because its true the money being used has not been included in the budget. (Nakubaliana naye kwa sababu ni kweli hii pesa wanatumia haiko kwa bajeti)," he added.
The DP and his allies have been blowing hot and cold on the issue, endorsing the proposed changes and questioning it at the same time.
