Agriculture minister Mwangi Kiunjuri is engineering his own sacking from goverment as a plot to stamp his authority as de facto leader of Mt Kenya, Moses Kuria has said.
The CS last week signed a document from a section of Mt Kenya leaders, opposing recommendations to introduce Parliamentary system of government.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is set to retire in 2022, has often warned ministers against politicking. His impending exit has caused political confusion at his backyard.
But Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has lashed at Kiunjuri, accusing him of intentionally engaging in politics so that he can be fired. The move, he adds, will give him political mileage.
Despite Kiunjuri's moves, President Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted of being around a little longer to give the Mt Kenya direction. Kiunjuri is a close ally of DP William Ruto.
“The report will be out and anything detrimental will be dealt with on its own merit. Otherwise, it is very dishonest and there is a hidden agenda because they are extending their selfish political interests,” said Mr Kuria.
But in a rejoinder on Saturday, Kiunjuri defended his moves, arguing that being a senior leader, he will always respond to calls from Mt Kenya to give directions.
“I am loyal to the President and I don't think anybody will be offended by me offering a solution when called upon. I am a senior member of the community with vast experience in leadership. I served as an MP for 15 years, an assistant minister for 10 years and now a Cabinet secretary,” he said.
Kiunjuri served as an MP for 15 years. He was the leader of defunct GNU party. He was appointed to the cabinet in 2015 by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
