On Monday, Daily Nation reported that Mumia had written to the Quakers Church in Kakamega seeking for the revocation of his baptismal certificate.

In the letter dated October 17, Mumia noted that he doesn’t want to be associated with Christianity in any way, adding that he was a Christian in the 2000s but he later changed his faith.

“I would like to formally renounce my baptism and membership in the Quakers Church, Kenya,” Mr Mumia’s said in the letter.

He argued that he did not consent to the baptism, adding that he was baptised before he became a teenager.

“I was baptised at the Quakers Church at Makhokho Secondary School, Kakamega County during my pre-teen years without my consent,” he added.

He has now asked the church to recall all his records with immediate effect so that he is not linked to the church in any way.

Mumia noted that atheists do not believe in the existence of a supreme being, adding that baptism is not their thing as well.

His decision to renounce the church has already started eliciting mixed reactions from different quarters.

Nominated Makueni MCA Lynet Mbula Mutula wants Mumia to be given a media blackout for pushing for atheism in the country, arguing that he is misleading youth.
