The Law Society of Kenya has preempted a possible cancellation of lawyer Cliff Ombeta's practicing licence, due to his recent court theatrics.
The criminal lawyer has been on the spot in the manner in which he has handled the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, refusing severally to appear for the accused.
On Thursday, Stephen Ongeri on behalf of LSK, said Ombeta is no longer a practicing lawyer, adding that he does not have a practicing certificate.
Mr Ombeta is representing three people believed to have murdered Mr Kimani in 2017. Mr Ongeri told Justice Jessie Lessit that Ombeta is a stranger to court.
Last month, he appeared in court with sweat pants, arguing that he was sick. He also confronted Prof Ben Sihanya, who was appearing for Kimani's family.
"It doesn't matter whether it's the court or you. Then why are you talking to me about this?" he is seen shouting at the scholar, who in return accuses him of dragging the case.
While addressing Justice Lessit, Ombeta argued that he had been sick, and ended up breaking in court causing confusions for some time.
"What I am ailing from for how long and what it is is not important... let my ailment be about me because I am the one who is in pain... please leave me alone to ail...," the lawyer sobbed.
But a quick online search on LSK website, Mr Ombeta is among listed practicing lawyers, another indication that the decision is yet to be effected.
