A distressed family is searching for their son who went missing after Egerton University students in Nakuru held demonstrations.
The student identified as Dennis Kimutai Wendot who is in the third year at the institution went missing on December 4, 2019, when students were protesting over fees hike.
The father, Jacob Wendot, said he tried to reach his son after he was informed by his daughter, Viola Wendot, that Kimutai could not be reached on phone.
Speaking to Nation, the father who is at their home in Bumala, Busia said he last talked to his son on November 28 and was informed of his son’s disappearance on Monday.
“I called my son after the strike but I could not reach him, I am disturbed and worried of his safety,” said Jacob as quoted by Nation.
Wendot said they have reported his third-born son’s disappearance at Njoro Police Station.
Student leaders led by Egerton University Students Association chairperson Henry Mulyungi have asked anyone with information leading to Kimutai’s whereabouts to come forward.
Mulyungi said they tried looking for Kimutai after he went missing following the strike but they could not find him.
“We appeal to people of goodwill to help us find Kimutai,” said Mulyungi.
Njoro Sub County Police Commander Mohammed Huka who confirmed that the matter has been reported said investigations are ongoing.
Egerton University was closed indefinitely following the protest by students after the institution threatened to defer students for one year if they did not clear fee balances.
