Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has dismissed claims of being corrupt.
He is facing multiple corruption charges among them, receiving kickbacks in favour of a garbage company tender award.
The county boss on Monday, however, denied claims that he has been defrauding the county, saying that he has already made too much money to steal from his own constituents.
Speaking on Radio Maisha, he claimed that he has actually grown tired of getting of money, laughing off allegations that he has been using his position to embezzle the county government.
He said that contrary to claims by his critics and the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC), which is probing him, he is actually safeguarding public money.
"I am actually tired of money, I started earning a long time ago. I cannot steal Sh3 or Sh33 million. God has blessed me and I cannot steal such an amount of money that is litter. I am the one safeguarding county monies (Mimi nimechoka na pesa, nimeanza kushika pesa zamani. Mimi si mtu wa kuiba Sh3 million ama Sh33 million. Mungu amenibariki, mimi siwezi iba pesa takataka kama hiyo, ni mimi nachunga pesa za kaunti)," he said on Radio Maisha.
The county chief said that the claims are being sponsored by persons out to tarnish his name, over anger that he has cut the initial links they used to fleece the county.
He added that he is being fought by City Hall cartels who previously benefited from gaps within the county revenue collection systems, which allowed them to steal from the county.
"I am being fought because I have ended the initial system where money was being collected in cash and stolen at the revenue office (Napigwa kwa sababu nimemaliza ile mambo ya pesa ilikuwa inaibwa na magunia pale kwa revenue maana ilikuwa inalipwa cash)," he added.
