Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s recent suggestion for the scrapping of the term limits for county bosses has not augured well with a section of leaders from the Eastern region.
Led by Chama Cha Uzalendo National Organising Secretary Davis Musau, the leaders have said that the Former Vice President errored to make such a proposal in a country where a shortage of leaders is not a problem.
Musau said that the remarks of the Ukambani Political kingpin were not reasonable considering the spirit of democracy. The leaders said that the idea of governors being given another chance.
“Scrapping the governors' term limit would work against those aspiring for the seat since the incumbents would use resources at their disposal to block rivals,” Musau said.
Musau’s remarks were echoed by Machakos County Kanu Secretary Peter Kioko. Kioko argued that governors should not be allowed to remain in office the way African leaders have been used to doing in the past.
Musau said that there is no way we can retain governors who have been linked to graft at the county levels and expected anything positive from them the longer they remain in office.
Kalonzo has on several occasions said that he has no problem with the BBI proposal to extent Presidential term limit.
