Renowned economist David Ndii has vouched for Deputy President William Ruto as an agent of necessity against dynastic rule.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the outspoken economist appeared to suggest that he did not mind the deputy president ascending to the presidency, if that means keeping the dynasties at pay in the 2022 general election.
"Moi was an agent of necessity against Kikuyu hegemony. Kibaki was an agent of necessity against KANU rule via Moi project Uhuru Kenyatta. Kibaki was as corrupt as sin and we knew it. If the only agent of necessity against consolidation of dynastic rule in 2022 is Ruto, so be it, " David Ndii tweeted.
The economist, who is a former member of the National Super Alliance (NASA) secretariat, has in recent weeks escalated his attacks on the so-called dynastic families, saying there is a necessity to keep them from power.
DP Ruto has styled himself as a hustler who rose through the ranks to become the country's second most powerful person.
He has made public his intention to run for the presidency in the 2022 general election, when President Uhuru Kenyatta's second and last term draws to a close.
He is expected to face off with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, who has not come out clearly on whether he will seek the presidency in 2022.
