East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Oburu Oginga has told off politicians calling on former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to retire from politics.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader has been under pressure to quit politics and appoint his successor as Luo-Nyanza kingpin.
Oburu, who is Raila's elder brother, dismissed the calls saying it was too early for the opposition chief to exit the political scene where he has been a major player for close to four decades.
“How do you pass the baton before finishing the race. You must first accomplish your mission then pass it. He is yet to finish the race,” said Oburu as quoted by People Daily, Friday.
Raila's silence on his 2022 game plan has led to speculations that he was contemplating retirement after four failed attempts at the presidency.
The former Prime Minister has been avoiding the succession politics since his March 9, 2018 handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta and the subsequent appointment as African Union's High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa.
However, Oburu has been categorical that his younger brother is not yet done, terming those speculating his retirement as 'day dreamers'.
“They should not day dream that Raila has retired from politics; Raila cannot retire from politics. He is a politician by blood and he cannot retire. Anybody who wishes him retirement is day dreaming,” the EALA MP said during a past burial ceremony in Siaya County.
